Thiruvananthapuram: Tensions are brewing between rival factions ever since Binoy Viswam was given charge as CPI state secretary.

It should be noted that Binoy’s secretaryship is yet to be approved by the state council. However, rival factions are likely to recommend a different person to the post in the council meeting that will be  held on December 28.

As we all know, Binoy Viswam was a close aide of Kanam Rajendran. However, when compared to Kanam, Binoy neither enjoys popularity nor has the acceptance that Kanam enjoyed in the party ranks.

Ismail group is said to be the instigators of the latest rebellion. Considering the current situation, the party might look for safer options when it comes to ‘state secretaryship’.

Needless to say that Kanam enjoyed an unprecedented popularity among his partymen. However, the rival factions are now mulling on creating a new ‘face’ for CPI Kerala.  

There were tensions within the party during the last state meeting as well. However, back then no one had the power to challenge Kanam’s supremacy. It should be noted that the veteran leader had stated in a council meeting that it had come to his notice that four different ‘group’ meetings were taking place in parallel with the CPI state meeting. Kanam had warned of strict actions against such tendencies in the future. The veteran leader was not ready to withstand anything that would weaken the party.

In his warning, Kanam had also mentioned the places where the alleged meetings had taken place. Sadly, the Ismail group had no answers to Kanam back then.          

As of now, it is reported that several meetings are being held against Binoy Viswam across the state. It is known that the Ismai group is mulling on nominating the names of Rajaji Mathew Thomas, Mullakkara Rathnakaran and party assistant secretary E Chandrasekharan to the secretary post.

However, no confirmations regarding the developments have been received from the above mentioned people. In case of a contention over the rightful candidate to the post, Prakash Babu is likely to come into the picture.
