Adoor (Pathanamthitta): A man who had been paralyzed for eight years died from a self-inflicted wound to his abdomen after receiving a bank notice demanding payment of outstanding loan arrears or face further action. The 57-year-old, named Yasodharan and hailing from Kadampanad, Adoor, reportedly stabbed himself with a pair of scissors. Yasodharan had been paralyzed following a severe injury sustained from a fall from a tree.

According to relatives, Yasodharan was found with the abdominal wound on the morning of March 21. He was admitted to a private medical college hospital in Adoor but succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday evening. Yasodharan's wife, K Ushakumari, stated that he had been depressed since receiving the bank's notice regarding loan arrears and said this was the reason for his demise.

The loan was in Ushakumari’s name, with an outstanding balance of Rs 6,82,000. However, the bank clarified that a letter had been issued 60 days back regarding the loan repayment, and no action had been taken by the borrower. The Bank President added that officials had contacted Yasodharan to request payment of the outstanding dues.
