Kozhikode: The SHO of Pantheerankavu police station has been suspended in connection with the dowry abuse case, for failing to discharge his duties properly. The suspended cop was identified as A S Sarin. The order was issued by the Inspector General (Northern Zone).
The victim’s family members have accused the cop of not taking their complaint seriously when they initially approached him. Upon persuasion, the police only booked Rahul on charges of domestic violence and did not show any interest in sending him to remand.
The cops at Pantheerankavu station were accused of trivialising the issue as a routine marital problem, they reportedly tried settling the matter despite the grievous offences involved.
Serious charges including those of attempt to murder were slapped on Rahul, when the police laxity in the incident came to light. The investigation was handed over to Feroke ASP. A lookout notice was served against the accused who is currently absconding.
Amidst the mayhem, a woman hailing from Erattupetta in Kottayam lodged a complaint against Rahul P Gopal in the police station accusing him of committing marriage fraud. She claimed that Rahul married the latest victim after registering his marriage with her via a matrimonial website; technically he apparently married for a second time concealing the details of his previous marriage! The new complainant said that she decided to move out of the wedlock after growing suspicious of the Rahul's actions.
