Kottayam: Taimur Tariq, a Pakistani native now part of Puthuppally through his marriage to Sreeja, marked India's 78th Independence Day with unique sense of joy and connection. The celebrations took place at ‘Tariq Manzil,’ the home Sreeja built in honour of her father.

Taimur, who has become a social media sensation, marked the occasion by waving the Indian tricolor and extending warm Independence Day wishes.

Taimur first met his wife Sreeja 14 years ago in Dubai, and after an eight-year courtship, they got married. He visited Puthuppally for the first time in January for two weeks. This visit, however, was special for him as he aimed to celebrate India's Independence Day in the country itself.

"This is the first time I am celebrating India's Independence Day in India," Taimur said. "Usually, we celebrate both India's and Pakistan's Independence Days in Dubai. Unfortunately, I couldn't be present for Pakistan's Independence Day this year due to travel, but celebrating here with family and friends has been a wonderful experience."

Sreeja expressed her joy at having Taimur with her on this special day. “We generally celebrate both nations' Independence Days, and having Taimur here on August 15th made it extra special. We usually cut a cake and celebrate with friends.”

Taimur plans to return to Dubai after a week. However, he expressed a desire to permanently settle in Kerala, provided legalities allow.
