'Padayappa' turns violent when tourists provoke it in Munnar

Idukki: Wild jumbo Padayappa turned violent when the tourists arrived in Munnar and blocked its path. The incident happened at Kuttiyar Valley here on Wednesday evening. Padayappa trampled two bikes here.

According to reports, vehicles carrying tourists blocked the path of Padayappa which was roaming on the road. The elephant was provoked when its path got blocked.

Meanwhile, some of the tourists deboarded the vehicles and attempted to take pictures of the elephant.

The wild elephant named PT-7 entered the residential region at Dhoni in Palakkad and created panic in the area again. The officials of the Forest department arrived and attempted to drive the elephant back into the forest. A few locals blocked a vehicle of the forest department in view of a protest against the recurring elephant attacks.

Locals complained that the elephant often enters the village and tramples the cultivation here. They demanded the authorities resort to the help of a special team to tranquilise and confine the elephant.
