Thiruvananthapuram: Intelligence Department Chief P. Vijayan has filed a complaint against ADGP MR Ajith Kumar alleging that the statement given by the latter before the investigation team about his involvement in gold smuggling was false. He has also demanded action in this regard. The complaint received by the DGP has been forwarded to the government for further action.
The government had appointed an investigation committee headed by DGP S. Darvesh Saheb to investigate the allegations made against P. Vijayan by PV Anwar MLA. Ajith Kumar gave his statement against P. Vijayan before this committee. The ADGP's statement was that SP Sujith Das had told him that P. Vijayan was involved in gold smuggling gangs in Karipur. However, Sujith Das denied this statement.
Earlier, based on MR Ajith Kumar's report, P. Vijayan was suspended. The suspension was as per investigation for leaking information about the accused in the Kozhikode train arson incident. He was suspended in 2023 and was later reinstated in service after higher officials rejected Ajith Kumar's investigation report in a subsequent investigation.
The issue involving P V Anwar, ADGP Ajith Kumar and P Vijayan started around police transfers and alleged political interference. It also sparked debates on whether political leaders were overstepping boundaries and undermining autonomy of the police force.
