Paravur: Noted historian Chendamangalam Madathiparambil P. Thankappan Nair (91) passed away. He died at home on Tuesday morning due to age-related ailments.
He is renowned as a historian who specializes in the history of Kolkata. During his time in Bengal, Thankappan Nair spent his time immersed in English books and documents, meticulously documenting the history, evolution, and culture of the city of Kolkata. He authored 63 books in English, with over half of them dedicated to Kolkata.
The popularity of his book 'Job Charnock: Founder of Calcutta', first published in 1977, led to Kolkata's tercentenary celebration in 1990.
He is survived by his wife, Seethadevi, a retired school teacher at Elenthikara High School; his children, Maya and Manoj Nair, teachers at Elenthikara High School; and the late Manish Nair, who worked at Kochi Refinery.
