Alappuzha: State executive member P Prasad may become the CPI candidate from Cherthala. According to CPI’s three-term policy which will be implemented strictly, state leader P Prasad will take the seat of minister P Thilothaman.
Prasad entered the electoral fray from Haripad in 2016 contesting against Ramesh Chennithala. Though he was sure of defeat, he did not hesitate to contest and was sure he would be considered from a secure seat of Cherthala.
Prasad was considered for Chadayamangalam seat in Kollam too but the party leadership thought that Prasad must be given a seat from his own constituency. Alappuzha District secretary T J Anjalose said that candidate selection rests with the state executive.
Though community equations work in a political constituency of Cherthala, this will not pose a hurdle here, said CPI. Prasad who is known to be a noted environmentalist may be able to make a difference in Cherthala, the party leadership feels.
Prasad would be the CPI candidate in Cherthala if nothing major turns up. If Prasad is excluded then T T Jismon may be fielded.
