The United Democratic Front (UDF) retained control of the Kannur Corporation with a decisive victory, despite concerted efforts by the Left Democratic Front (LDF) to wrest power.

P. Indira will assume office as the Mayor of the Kannur Municipal Corporation. She is currently serving as the Deputy Mayor. The announcement was made by Congress MP K. Sudhakaran at a press conference held after a meeting of the Kannur District Congress Committee (DCC). Sudhakaran said a major development project has been prepared for the corporation and will be implemented within a year.
A senior leader and lawyer, Indira has considerable administrative experience. She has served as chairperson of a women’s college and has held positions as a district office-bearer of the Mahila Congress and the Youth Congress. She had earlier contested the district council elections against P. K. Sreemathy and later sought a mandate to the Kerala Assembly from Kalliasseri. She has also served as standing committee chairperson in both the Kannur municipality and the corporation, and was functioning as Deputy Mayor until now.

Out of the 56 divisions, the UDF won 36 seats, while the LDF secured 15. The NDA won four divisions, and the SDPI won one seat.
