
Thiruvananthapuram: Actor Mohanlal has praised the actions of Varkkala native Sreekumar's family, whose organs were donated to help the lives of other patients. Mohanlal told the family that what they did was a great gesture and expressed his gratitude for the same. Mohanlal is the goodwill ambassador of Mrithasanjeevani scheme, an organ transplantation scheme of the state government.
Sreekumar’s wife and son listened to the words of Mohanlal with a heavy heart. The actor told them that he is in Chennai currently and would meet them when he gets back to Thiruvananthapuram.
Varkkala native Sreekumar’s organs were donated to help four patients get a new life. The family was determined to donate the organs of Sreekumar, who was brain dead after being in a road accident. His heart was donated to save the life of Athirampuzha native Jose, who was undergoing treatment in Kottayam Medical College.
His liver and one kidney were given to a patient in KIMS hospital and the other kidney was donated to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College hospital.
Mohanlal called Sreekumar’s son Swath, who is a student at Pattom JDC, on Sunday evening. The actor told him that he came to know about the incident through newspapers.
While speaking to Sreekumar’s wife Baby Bindhu, Mohanlal said that the family would be mentioned in the prayers of so many people.
Mohanlal had appreciated the efforts of ‘Mrithasanjeevani’ authorities, who were helping a lot patients, even in the time of Coronavirus. He called Mrithasanjeevani nodal officer Dr. Noble Gracious and conveyed his appreciation.
