Thiruvananthapuram: A fine of Rs 500 will be charged for open defecation and urination in public places as per the amendment made to Kerala Police Act in the backdrop of Epidemic Disease Control ordinance.

The police has been given the authority to charge fine for minor offences which were not defined after the Police Act came into force. The station house officer can charge a fine of Rs 500 for breaking a public or private queue in public places.

The rule also instructs that Rs 5000 will be charged if anybody interfered with the service of police officers or violate the rules and regulations.
