Thiruvananthapuram:  The Congress is making moves to shift former chief minister Oommen Chandy from Puthupally for the upcoming Assembly polls. Chandy who will be leading the ten-member election management and strategy committee for the upcoming Assembly polls may be fielded from the state capital, according to inside sources in the Congress. The Congress plans to field Chandy from Thiruvananthapuram, Nemom or Vattiyourkavu constituency. Discussions are also on to field his son Chandy Oommen from Puthupally, the sitting seat of Oommen Chandy.

However, Kottayam DCC and the `A’ group are objecting to this move.  They opine that there is no necessity for Chandy to leave his hometown constituency of Puthuppally in Kottayam district.  But the suggestion to field Chandy from Thiruvananthapuram came from KPCC president Mullappally Ramachandran himself.  Leaders opine that Chandy contesting from the capital city will energise the party and also revitalise the Front in the capital and also in South Kerala. Though discussions revolving on this was doing the rounds earlier, it got intense after leaders returned from New Delhi.

The Assembly seat of Thiruvananthapuram is the sitting seat of the Congress. Nemom is the sitting seat of BJP and Vattiyourkavu that of the CPM.

Meanwhile, there are also attempts to field V M Sudheeran from Nemom and grab the seat from the BJP.
