Thiruvananthapuram: The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau, Kerala (VACB) will only conduct a preliminary inquiry against ADGP M.R. Ajith Kumar. A probe report is expected to be submitted after six months.

The investigation is led by SP Johnykutty of the Vigilance Thiruvananthapuram Special Investigation Unit-I, which is also handling complaints against suspended SP Sujith Das.

After six months of inquiry, the report will determine if the allegations merit further action. If the accusations are substantiated, a formal inquiry could be recommended.

The state government ordered the inquiry against M.R. Ajith Kumar and Sujith Das on Thursday evening, based on a recommendation from the state police chief, Dr. Sheikh Darvesh Sahib.

Last week, PV Anvar MLA met Kerala Chief Minister Vijayan and CPM state Secretary M. V. Govindan and briefed them about how Ajith Kumar is "engaging in undesirable activities" and getting support from Vijayan’s political secretary P. Sasi.

However, the government did not take action on the recommendation given by the DGP last week. The government faced severe criticism, including from the LDF coalition partner CPI, for not taking appropriate action against Ajith Kumar. CPI also raised the issue of Ajith Kumar’s meeting with two top Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leaders last year.

A vigilance probe will examine whether Ajith Kumar is involved in the illegal acquisition of property and the construction of unauthorized buildings
