Novelist and short story writer Sarah Thomas passes away

Thiruvananthapuram: Noted writer Sarah Thomas (88) passed away on Friday morning at her daughter's residence in Nandavanam here.

Sarah, who has written 17 novels and over 100 short stories, had won several awards, including Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award. The Akademi award was given for the work ‘Narmadipudava’ in 1979.

PA Backer’s film ‘Manimuzhakkam’ was an adaptation of her novel ‘Murippadukal’. It won several awards, including the National Film Award. Apart from this, the novels ‘Asthamayam’, ‘Pavizhamuth’ and ‘Archana’ have also been themes for movies.

Her first novel was ‘Jeevitham Enna Nadi’. Her works also include ‘Daivamakkal’ and ‘Velakkar’.

Funeral on Saturday at Pattoor church cemetery.
