Kozhikode: Speaking about the Uniform Civil Code debate, CPI National council member and MP Binoy Viswam said that changes should be made in personal laws. Novel thoughts are gaining strength in every religion and these should not be viewed as a sin. The MP was speaking at a symposium organized by INL on the topic ‘Uniform Civil Code: How to counter the Hindutva agenda’.
If religion keeps upholding its outdated views about women’s rights, women may grow beyond those religions. Therefore, religions should learn to identify and embrace the new democratic ideas that arise within their factions. If they fail to do this, fanatics will strengthen their roots within all religions.
This kind of fanaticism sometimes endangers religions themselves. Binoy Viswam added that it was American imperialism that sowed the seeds of intransigence towards accommodating changes within religious believers.
In his speech, the MP pointed out that the BJP is moving forward with the Uniform Civil Code as a purely political agenda.
