New Delhi: SFI national president V P Sanu on Monday said the Governor may be relieved from the post of Chancellor of the universities in Kerala if he wishes. Governor Arif Mohammed Khan recently had said that he will sign the bill to hand over the post to Chief Minister if the Assembly passes it. Khan was unhappy over recent developments in several institutions as he felt his powers were compromised.

"Governor should not become a puppet controlled by RSS. He says he wants to relieve from the post of Chancellor. Who is pressuring him to continue? If not him, someone else will do it. Be it Chief Minister or whoever the assembly decides. It is not a Constitutional post. No one is telling him 'Aiyo acha povalle'," Sanu told Mathrubhumi News.

The governor on December 11 said the higher education in the state has gone to dogs.

"The Chief Minister has nothing to do with the universities. While the school education in the state is fine, the higher education sector has gone to the dogs as even appointments are being made against the rules," said Khan while speaking to the media in Delhi.

"Since the chancellor's post is not Constitutional, I wrote to Pinarayi Vijayan to pass an Ordinance wherein the Chief Minister can take over as the chancellor," said Khan. He reiterated his stance despite the government attempts to pacify him.
