Kollam: A saksharata prerak of the Kerala State Literacy Mission Authority killed himself allegedly due to inordinate delay in disbursing their honorarium. The deceased, Pathanapuram native ES Bijumon, was a block-level nodal prerak.
Bijumon, who won the award for the best prerak from the President of India, had not received the honorarium for the past six months. He had been a prerak for the past 20 years.
Saksharatha Prerak Association alleged that Bijumon was reeling under financial constraints. The association's protest in front of the state secretariat demanding the timely disbursement of horararium has completed 80 days.
The association says that the government shifted the preraks who were under the general education department to the self-government department on March 31 last year but failed to implement the change and this led to the crisis. As many as 1,714 preraks are working in Kerala.
