Kozhikode: In an attempt to contain the Nipah outbreak, the Kozhikode administration on Friday decided to continue the closure of educational institutions in the district for one more week. From schools to professional colleges, all educational institutions in the district will remain closed. The educational institutes will switch to online mode as it was done during the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown period. The directions regarding the same have been given, informed the district collector A Geetha.
Earlier, the administration declared that educational institutions will remain closed till Saturday. The new development comes after the review of the Nipah situation in the district.
A 39-year-old man has tested positive for the Nipah virus today taking the number of active cases in the state to four. With this, the total number of people infected with the virus went up to six, of which two persons had died earlier.
The updated contact list of the Nipah patients now encompasses 1080 individuals in total. 122 out of them are health care professionals and are in high-risk contacts. Apart from Kozhikode, 29 people in other districts are in the contact list (Malappuram-22, Kannur and Thrissur-3 each, Wayanad-1).
