Kochi: Efforts to secure the release of Nimisha Priya, the Malayali nurse facing the death penalty in Yemen, have suffered a setback. The Save Nimisha Priya Action Council, which had been actively campaigning for her release, has decided to suspend operations.

According to sources, the decision came after dissatisfaction over the involvement of pastor and evangelist K A Paul in the case. The council is expected to make a final decision after further consultations, including discussions with Kanthapuram A. P. Aboobacker Musliyar.

The Action Council was one of the main groups supporting Nimisha’s cause from the beginning, working to raise awareness and build public support. However, tensions reportedly rose when Nimisha’s family aligned with Pastor Paul’s separate intervention efforts, leading to differences with the council.

Meanwhile, the central government has distanced itself from Pastor Paul’s involvement in the case.
