
Kannur: A man who had sustained severe burns in the Nileshwar firework accident passed away on Saturday.
Sandeep, a resident of Choyamkode, who suffered burns on more than 40% of his body and was on a ventilator, died on Saturday evening.
The major accident took place in the early hours of Tuesday at the Anjootambalam Veerarkavu Temple, Kasaragod. The accident happened around 12:15 am when sparks from fireworks, set off during the Theyyam performance, fell into the storage building, causing a massive explosion.
The fireworks were stored in a sheet-covered building adjacent to the temple wall. Many people, including women and children, had gathered nearby to watch the Theyyam performance. Over 150 people were injured in the accident.
Earlier, three of the accused arrested in connection with the incident were granted bail. The Hosdurg First-Class Judicial Magistrate (Two) Court granted conditional bail to PK Chandrasekharan, the temple committee president; KT Bharathan, the secretary; and P Rajesh, who set off the fireworks. In total, four people were arrested by the special investigation team.
