Malappuram: Two new trains are set to begin operations on the Nilambur–Shoranur railway line. Southern Railway has recommended the introduction of these services to the Union Railway Ministry, according to a written communication from General Manager RN Singh to MP ET Mohammed Basheer

This new development follows the completion of electrification on the route and the commencement of train services. It also comes alongside recent upgrades, including the extension of platforms. Plans are also in place to add more coaches to the existing trains.

Work progressing on new crossing stations

RN Singh informed that construction of the Melattur and Kulukkallur crossing stations is progressing quickly.

The proposed train services are expected to significantly benefit passengers travelling between Shoranur and Nilambur. Additionally, the expansion of MEMU (Mainline Electric Multiple Unit) services is under the purview of the Railway Board. The process of obtaining approval to extend train number 66320 to Nilambur is currently underway, according to the General Manager.

MP ET Mohammed Basheer stated that he will meet the Railway Minister to take necessary steps to speed up the approval process.
