The Railway Board approves a vital third track for the Kayamkulam-Thiruvananthapuram section, with final location surveys and alignment mapping entering their last stages.

Kollam (Kerala): A third railway track will be constructed on the Kayamkulam-Thiruvananthapuram section, Member of Parliament N K Premachandran has announced. The Kollam MP said the Southern Railway General Manager, R N Singh, has officially informed him in writing that the project procedures have entered their final stages.
The Railway Board has granted formal approval for the construction of this third line, which will run parallel to the existing tracks. Following this development, the Final Location Survey (FLS) is currently underway across the Kayamkulam-Thiruvananthapuram sector. Both the geographical and traffic surveys have already been successfully completed.
The MP further said that the formulation of the detailed alignment is in its concluding phase. Once this is ready, a comprehensive Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be compiled and formally submitted to the Railway Board for ultimate execution, as confirmed by the Southern Railway General Manager.
