New Delhi: The Supreme Court said on Thursday that the appeals relating to the SNC Lavalin scam case will now be heard by a new bench. Postponing the hearing, the apex court bench headed by the Chief Justice of India UU Lalit said that the appeals have to be heard in detail.

The counsel appearing for former KSEB Joint Secretary told the court that two courts have already acquitted him. The counsel argued that there was no need for a detailed hearing in the case.

No senior advocates of the central government appeared for the CBI. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, additional solicitor generals SV Raju, Madhavi Divan and KM Nataraj have earlier appeared for the CBI in the case. It is learnt that they assumed the court will not hear the matter in detail on Thursday.

The appeals will now be heard in the last week of November. The new bench will be decided by Justice DY Chandrachud as UU Lalit retires on November 8.

Justice NV Ramana heard the appeals in the Lavalin case from 2018 to 2020 and it was transferred to a bench headed by Justice Lalit.
