Kochi: Following the intervention of the Kerala High Court, the Motor Vehicles Department has taken action in connection with the jeep ride by ousted CPM activist Akash Thillankeri, the prime accused in the murder of Youth Congress leader SP Shuhaib of Mattannur. As the High Court severely criticized Akash Thillankeri's actions and directed the MVD to initiate steps against the violations, the MVD has slapped nine charges against Sulaiman of Morayur, Malappuram, the owner of the jeep.
After penalizing Sulaiman with a fine of Rs. 45,000 in connection with traffic rule violations, the MVD also recommended the cancellation of the vehicle's RC.
The Kerala High Court came down heavily against Akash Thillankeri's jeep ride that violated traffic rules, directing the MVD to intervene and impound the vehicle immediately. The court emphasized the seriousness of the act, especially considering it was committed by a person accused in multiple criminal cases.
As the MVD initiated steps in connection with the incident, they discovered several previous incidents involving the same vehicle. An e-challan was sent to the vehicle owner in October 2023, as the vehicle was caught on camera violating traffic regulations.
Akash Thillankeri's jeep ride became controversial after he shared an Instagram reel of his journey through Panamaram, accompanied by background music and film dialogues. In the video, he was seen riding the modified jeep without a number plate through Panamaram town, Nellarattu junction, and Aryannur nada. It was evident from the visuals that the vehicle had been modified in violation of regulations. The footage of Akash Thillankeri's ride was captured by his friends who were traveling in another vehicle.
