Thrissur: The rhythm goes wrong, and a false note makes it sound awkward. Music director Mohan Sithara realises that the tune of politics doesn’t fit well with the world of music. In a Facebook post justifying his position, the music director clarifies that his act of joining the BJP had occurred without realising the seriousness involved.
“I am only a musician. I don’t know anything about politics. I have close friends in all political parties, so I cannot take part in political activities by leading from the front or supporting from behind. I can’t align myself with any of them,” he said.
On September 2, the BJP Thrissur district committee issued a press release saying that Mohan Sithara had joined the BJP. Sithara says that a friend of his had called him a few days earlier and hinted at joining the BJP. “Since I didn’t want to antagonise them, I agreed to their wish. They came to the recording studio where I work, draped a shawl over me, and shook hands. That is what happened,” he said.
“Many politicians come to my home. As an artist, I attend programmes organised by various political parties based on my work schedule. I can only be a part of the society where many political parties function. I plead with those who have come to congratulate me, my friends in other political parties, and the general public to understand my helplessness regarding this situation,” he said.
“I am a person who lives quietly, focusing solely on my music. I humbly ask everyone not to drag me into unnecessary debates over this. With humility, I want to end this here. I can’t continue with this discussion anymore. I don’t know how to explain this any better,” Mohan Sithara said.
