Irikkur: A man was arrested for murdering his friend and burying him inside a under-construction building where he was working. Pareshnath Mandal (26) was arrested for the murder of Ashikul Islam (26). Both of them are Bengal natives. Their friend Ganesh is also a suspect in the case. Pareshnath and Ganesh had fled after stealing Rs 7000 from Islam. 

Ashikul Islam went missing on June 28. Both Ganesh and Pareshnath also went missing the same day. Islam’s brother Momin filed a complaint with the Irikkur police and an investigation began. While searching for the three missing men, the police got intelligence that Pareshnath was near Mumbai. The police team headed by Irikkur principal SI M V Sheeju arrested Pareshnath from a construction site, 100 km away from Mumbai. He was brought to Irikkur on Monday evening.  

On questioning, Pareshnath revealed that Islam was murdered and his body buried in a one-meter deep pit dug in a corner of a washroom inside the building owned by P V Muneer in Peruvalathuparamba. The body was recovered under the ground and was found sealed with a concrete layer on top. The police hinted that the men had rifts quite often and that led to the murder.

The body was taken out on Friday morning in the presence of senior police officers. The post-mortem was held at the crime scene under the guidance of Dr Gopalakrishna Pillai, Police Surgeon in Government Medical College, Kannur in the presence of District Police chief Navaneeth Sharma, Iritty DySP Prince Abraham, Police inspectors K Sudheer, P V Sajeev, and K J Binoy. The culprit will be produced before the court on Saturday. Ashikul Islam’s relatives has put forward a request to take the body to his home town.
