Court ruling on Munambam land sparks tax payment rush, but legal hurdles delay acceptance.

Cherai (Kochi): Following a court verdict stating that the land in the Munambam area does not belong to the Wakf Board, many local residents arrived en masse at the Kuzhuppilly Village Office to pay their land tax. They came in the hope that, as per the court order, they would now be able to pay tax on the land. However, no one was able to make a payment.
The authorities responded by stating that they could not accept land tax payments without proper legal counsel. Tahsildar V Jayesh clarified that land tax can only be accepted after receiving full details of the court order and a corresponding decision from the government.
In response, the BJP staged a sit-in protest at the village office.
Meanwhile, locals are hopeful that a favourable decision from the government will be announced during the Cabinet meeting scheduled for Wednesday.
