Mullaringadu: A 23-year-old man, Amar Elahi, lost his life in a wild elephant attack here on Sunday afternoon. Amar was killed when an elephant charged at him while he was on hi sway to untie a cow near his house, located in a forest department area. His companion, 41-year-old B. M. Mansoor, also a neighbour was seriously injured but managed to escape the attack.

The incident occurred around 3:30 pm when two wild elephants suddenly rushed towards the men. Neither Amar nor Mansoor had time to run. Amar succumbed to his injuries while being shifted to the Thodupuzha Karikkode Taluk Hospital. This marks the second wild elephant attack fatality in Mullaringadu in the past month, and the seventh such death in Idukki this year.

Forest Minister A.K. Saseendran has announced that the family will receive financial aid. Amar's family, including his father Ibrahim, mother Jamila, and sister Sahana, have been left devastated by the loss.

The area where the attack occurred is close to a forest region, where wild elephants have frequently been spotted in recent weeks. Locals report that the elephant menace has been ongoing for about two and a half years, with elephants often coming to residential areas.
