Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has confirmed that Tuesday will remain a holiday for Muharram, as announced earlier. Despite requests to shift the holiday to Wednesday, the government has decided against it, citing no compelling reasons for the change.
Muḥarram is the first month of the Islamic calendar. Muharram 10 is known as the Day of Ashurah, which commemorates the martyrdom of Husayn ibn Ali, grandson of Prophet Muhammed, during the Battle of Karbala.
Heavy rains have led to the closure of educational institutions across several districts in the State on Monday. An orange warning has been issued for the districts of Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod for Tuesday due to the likelihood of heavy rainfall.
