Kozhikode: Police have arrested two suspects following a robbery at the residence of renowned writer MT Vasudevan Nair. The suspects, identified as the house cook and her relative, were apprehended after an investigation into the theft of 26 sovereigns of gold ornaments from Sithara House, located on Kottaram Road in Nadakkave in Kozhikode.

The theft was reported to the police on Friday morning, however, a case was not registered immediately as a written complaint had not been submitted. It wasn't until 9:30 pm that MT's wife, Saraswathi, formally lodged a complaint.

According to the complaint, the stolen items included three gold necklaces, a bangle, two pairs of ear rings, two pairs of diamond ear rings, a diamond locket, and a locket adorned with an emerald stone. The theft is believed to have occurred between September 22 and 30 while the couple were away from home.

The missing jewellery was stored in a locker in the bedroom cupboard, and the family reported that 35 sovereigns of jewellery, kept alongside the stolen items, remained intact in the locker.

The family informed the police that the delay in reporting the theft was due to their need to confirm whether the missing jewellery had been placed in a bank locker.

During the investigation, it became evident that there were no signs of forced entry or damage to the almirah, raising suspicions that the thieves may have used a key kept near the almirah to gain access. This has led authorities to consider the possibility that the crime may have involved someone close to the family.
