Kozhikode: A memorial event will be held on Wednesday to mark the fifth death anniversary of noted writer, orator, and journalist M.P. Veerendra Kumar.
Veerendra Kumar, former chairman and managing director of Mathrubhumi, was known for his distinct contributions to environmental activism and socio-political discourse, leaving a lasting legacy through his leadership in the media and public life.
The event will begin at 11 a.m. at the Muhammad Abdur Rahiman Sahib Memorial Jubilee Hall in Kandamkulam, Kozhikode. Former Editor-in-Chief of The Hindu, N. Ram, will deliver the keynote address at the event.
The event will also feature the presentation of the inaugural M.P. Veerendra Kumar National Thought Leadership Award to Pandurang Hegde, a veteran environmental and social activist. Hegde is the founder of the Appiko Movement, a grassroots initiative credited with promoting forest conservation and environmental justice in India. The award will be presented by Rajendra Singh, acclaimed across India for his work in reviving rivers and promoting sustainable water management.
