Ankola: The body found in the lorry driven by Arjun, a native of Kozhikode, has been transferred to the North Kannada District Hospital. District Collector K. Lakshmi Priya  announced that a DNA test will be conducted to confirm the identity of the deceased. Once the test results come, the mortal remains would be handed over to the relatives, collector said.

Lakshmi Priya said that results from the DNA test should be available within two days. Samples from Arjun's relatives have been collected, along with a sample from the recovered body. Other necessary procedures are also in progress. The district collector was speaking to the media during her visit to the spot.

It was on July 16 that Arjun, from Kannadikkal, Kozhikode, went missing along with his lorry during a landslide. After 71 days of recovery efforts, Arjun's lorry was found in the Gangavali River this afternoon, with the body discovered inside the cab. While officials believe the body is Arjun's, confirmation is pending on the DNA test results.

This tragedy is linked to a landslide accident on the Panvel-Kanyakumari National Highway, where eight bodies have already been recovered, bringing the death toll in the accident to nine. Karnataka government sources confirmed that dredging operations in the river will continue, as two more individuals are still unaccounted for.

Meanwhile, the lorry has been successfully lifted to the shore using a crane.
