Thiruvananthapuram: A question in the Higher Secondary first year model examination has sparked curiosity among students. The English paper held the other day included a prompt asking students to prepare a biographical sketch, which generated both excitement and surprise among them.

Instead of the usual names of prominent English writers or scientists that typically feature in such question papers, students were this time asked to write the life sketch of actor Mohanlal. The question also provided certain cues related to his life and achievements.

It asked students to prepare the sketch incorporating details such as his debut as a villain in 1978 with Manjil Virinja Pookkal, his five National Awards, and honours including the Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. The question index also referred to milestones ranging from his birth to the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.

A list of some of Mohanlal’s career-best films, including Manichitrathazhu, Thanmathra, Odiyan and Neru, along with hints about his upcoming projects, was also included in the question. Amid the pressure of examinations, the question about their favourite star offered students a sense of relief.

However, certain factual errors in the question have since triggered discussion on social media. Critics pointed out that Mohanlal made his acting debut in 1978 with Thiranottam, while Manjil Virinja Pookkal was released in 1980. Some have also criticised the use of the phrase “so-called superstar” in the occupational description provided in the question.
