Thiruvananthapuram: Transport minister Antony Raju defended KSRTC management's decision to end concessions for students above 25 years of age.

Minister said that KSRTC had not taken a decision to withdraw the concession altogether. Students of government and government-aided schools will continue to enjoy free travel. Students of private educational institutions are eligible for a 65 per cent concession, Antony Raju added.

"Even retired government officials who attend evening classes in educational institutions can apply for a concession as per the existing rules. A decision was taken to end such practices," he added.

Minister said that the department has been taking measures to provide concession certificates online from next year onwards.

Meanwhile, the students organisations, including SFI, have protested against KSRTC's decision to end concession for students above 25 years of age.
