Thiruvananthapuram: The candidature of Dr P K Jameela, wife of minister A K Balan, in the upcoming assembly election has almost been confirmed. It is learnt that CPM state committee also approved Jameela’s candidature. Jameela will be fielded in Tharoor, a reservation seat which is currently held by her husband A K Balan.
Jameela is considered after ignoring SC leaders like Ponnukuttan. A group of party workers had protested against fielding Jameela who is not active in any political activities. Earlier, when her name was suggested in the district secretariat meeting, it had ended up in clashes.
Dr P K Jameela is the retired director of health department. She is daughter of P K Kunjachan who was CPM central committee member and Rajya Sabha MP. Jameela had served as a doctor in Palakkad district hospital and district medical officer. Currently, she is leading the ‘Aardram’ project of the state government.
