Pathanamthitta: Meet Michael, the one-year-old dog in Mathoor with an extraordinary responsibility. Not only does he love his family, but Michael also plays an essential role in guiding the cows to and from their stable every day.
James, a resident of the colony, is the owner of two cows, Ammu and Rani. Every morning, as soon as the cows are released from their stable, Michael rushes forward, grabs the rope attached to Ammu, and leads them to the field. His role doesn’t end there. Michael is also the one who brings them back in the evening, making sure everything runs smoothly for his family.

According to James' wife, Saramma, Michael has been incredibly diligent in his duties. Michael never misses a day of his work. The dog even visits the place where the cows are tied, checking in on them regularly to ensure they’re well cared for.
Growing up with cows
Michael's bond with the cows started early. He was brought into the family home before he could even open his eyes. Raised close to the cowshed, he quickly took on the role of managing Ammu's rope and leading the herd. James’ daughter, Jaya, also played a role in training Michael in ‘cow husbandry,’ teaching him how to guide and interact with the animals. Michael has also developed a strong connection with the youngest member of the herd, Rani, the calf.
For the people of the village, Michael is more than just a dog – he’s a part of their daily routine and a true family member who helps manage the herd with love and loyalty.
