Amrithapuri: Mata Amritanandamayi Devi was presented with the Janani Award 2026, instituted by the Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam International Foundation, during the 11th death anniversary commemoration of former President Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.

Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar presented the award at a ceremony held at the Amritapuri Ashram. The honour recognises Mata Amritanandamayi Devi's extensive contributions to humanitarian and social service, social transformation, and women's empowerment.

Speaking at the event, the Governor said Mata Amritanandamayi Devi's message that "human life is fulfilled when one serves others" reflects the life philosophy and values upheld by Dr Abdul Kalam. He said her work transcends the boundaries of love and service, adding that there is nothing more valuable in today's world than her presence. He also described her as a remarkable personality who has dedicated her life to promoting human values.

Accepting the award, Mata Amritanandamayi Devi said Dr Abdul Kalam was an extraordinary leader who devoted himself to advancing the nation's scientific progress. She said his simplicity and humility, even while serving as President, set him apart from others, and that his life should serve as an inspiration for the younger generation. She added that she was deeply honoured to receive an award instituted in his name.

During the ceremony, Governor Arlekar also unveiled the official poster of Kalam's Angel, a film being produced with the support of AI technology and inspired by the vision and values of Dr Abdul Kalam. He also inaugurated Janani 2026, a nationwide movement aimed at empowering women.

Dr A.P.J.M. Naseema Maricar, Chairperson of the Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam International Foundation, Executive Chairman Dr Jerry Mathew, and Organising Secretary Olivya Syra Raju also addressed the gathering.
