Chalakudy: A large fire broke out at a paint godown in Chalakudy on Monday, sending thick black smoke into the air and causing panic in the densely populated area, police said.

The godown, situated close to several shops and residential buildings, was quickly engulfed in flames. Multiple fire engines were deployed to the site and swiftly began efforts to bring the blaze under control.

Television visuals showed local residents and labourers rushing into the burning structure in an attempt to salvage paint containers and other materials before the fire spread further. The shop is situated next to a gas godown and the cylinders have currently been moved due to the fire.

Chalakudy police confirmed that the fire has been brought under control and said that final extinguishing efforts are ongoing. No injuries or casualties have been reported so far.
