Kochi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has submitted a chargesheet against four Maoist leaders in connection with the shootout at Periya, Wayanad. The accused as per the chargesheet are Thiruvenkittam (Chandru) and Sreemathi (Unnimaya) from Tamil Nadu who were captured during the attack and Latha (Meera) and Sundari (Jenny), who are currently absconding.
They have been charged with sections including UAPA and Arms prohibition act. A reward of Rs 10 lakh has been announced for those who provide information about the absconding persons.
The shootout pertaining to the case occurred on November 7, 2023 at the house of Anish, a resident of the colony. The Maoist group had come to the colony to get food items and charge mobile phones. The case which was initially investigated by the NIA was taken over by the NIA in February.
