Manjeshwaram: A train hit a man and travelled 14 kilometres with the dead body trapped in front of its engine. The deceased was identified as Moideenkutty (70), a native of Hosangadi. The accident happened on Monday around 11.30 am as he was passing the closed level crossing in Hosangadi.
Moideenkutty was hit by Mangaluru-Coimbatore Intercity Express. The Hosangadi gateman had seen Moideenkutty get trapped on the hook in front of the engine. He informed this matter to the nearest gate in Uppala. Uppala gateman then informed Muttam gateman.
When someone is hit by the train, the rule is to stop the train at the next station and the loco pilot must inform the station master. This is done to stop other trains from coming in the same path. The loco pilot realised that the body was trapped in front of the train while informing the Kumbla station.
Moidenkutty is unmarried. He used to live with his brother in Hosangadi. A police team headed by Kumbla SI V K Aneesh completed the inquest. The body was given to his relatives after postmortem at Mangalpady Taluk Hospital.
