Manjeri (Malappuram): The gynecology department of Manjeri Medical College, which was declared as COVID care centre, has stopped admitting pregnant women due to the shortage of doctors. However, treatment in Out Patient (OP) section will continue and the already admitted women will be provided treatment. Complicated and critical cases will be referred to other hospitals.

Presently, there are only three doctors in the hospital. They have to work for 24 hours a day and are not given leave for many months. They are also not quarantined at regular intervals. Even after informing the situation to the concerned officials like DME, DMO and college principal many times, no action was taken to resolve the issue.

Two PG students from Kozhikode medical college were appointed in Manjeri medical college the other day. However, they are not experienced in handling complicated cases and surgeries. At present, 24 pregnant women arrived from abroad and other states and are under treatment in Manjeri medical college. Among them, 18 were confirmed with COVID-19.
