Kochi: The Kerala police on Sunday arrested a man who allegedly sent a letter threatening to carry out a suicide bomb attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his two-day visit to the state. The accused has been identified as Xavier, a native of Kochi.

According to the police, Xavier wrote the letter due to a personal grudge against Kaloor native Joseph Johnny, whose name and number were in the purported letter.

Meanwhile, Xavier first maintained that he did not write any such letter. “We had small arguments. But, there was no such situation to write a threat letter in his name,” Xavier said.

However, police arrested him after examining his handwriting. He confessed to the crime during the interrogation, police said.

Earlier on Saturday, the police had registered a case after state BJP chief K Surendran received a letter threatening to attack Modi.
