Perinthalmanna: A massive fire broke out inside a water well situated in the premise of a residence in Malappuram's Cheerattamala due to a tanker overturning and spilling diesel. The fire occurred two days after the tanker accident. The vehicle was transporting diesel from Kochi to Malappuram.
The tanker, owned by Nayara company, carrying approximately 20,000 litre of diesel, met with an accident resulting in a substantial diesel spillage. The spilled diesel infiltrated the wells of residences situated in lower-lying areas.
The well in the residence of Biju in Pariyapuram caught fire Tuesday when a centrifugal pump installed in the well was switched on. The fire remains uncontrolled, as the diesel-covered water continues to pose a significant challenge.
This diesel leakage has also impacted the wells of neighbouring houses also.
The accident occurred on Sunday morning. The tanker fell 30 feet deep after rolling over twice. The mishap took place around 3 am. The driver was the sole individual present in the vehicle during the incident. He sustained injuries.
