Malappuram: Protests erupted in the Calicut University campus following arguments and the subsequent clash between Pareeksha Bhavan officials and SFI activists. Student leaders alleged that some of them were locked in and beaten up by the Pareeksha Bhavan officials.
‘We arrived at the Pareeksha Bhavan to enquire about the study related-matters of a student of the university. We did not know which is the concerned department and was asking around for it when a person came and questioned us. He beat us when we asked who he was. Other employees also joined him. They closed the shutters to prevent us from leaving,’ a student said.
SFI activists Amaldev, Bindev, and Sreelesh said that there were 15 officers in the group that beat the students.
The officials stated that the student leaders created a ruckus when they were questioned about not following Covid-19 protocols.
Both students and officials are injured in the clash. SFI held a protest in front of the university demanding action against the officials.
