Kannur: The chairman of central Haj Committee, AP Abdullakutty, said that the embarkation point for Hajj pilgrimage will be set up in Malabar region in the next year.

Speaking at the ‘Meet The Press’ event at press club here, Abdullakutty said that the Malabar region will likely get a Hajj embarkation point in the next year. According to Abdullakutty, due to presence of airport in Kannur, there is a demand that it should be made an embarkation point for the pilgrims.

Similarly, as more people are going for Hajj from Malappuram and Kozhikode regions, Kozhikode has raised the demand, he said.

Abdullakutty assured that the demands will be deliberated and all sides will be considered before taking the decision.

This is year, the number of people allowed for Hajj pilgrim is limited, and as a result there are only ten embarkation points across the country. Kochi will be the embarkation point for Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Pondicherry and Lakshadweep, Abdullakutty informed.
