Palakkad: As the trial court is about to pronounce the verdict in Attappadi Madhu murder case on Tuesday, the tribal man’s family sought protection from the police. Reportedly, Madhu’s mother Malli and sister Sarasu arrived at the district police chief’s office around Sunday noon demanding protection.

According to the family, they decided to seek police protection as they have been facing pressure from the relatives of the accused in the wake of the verdict and were finding it difficult even to reach the Mannarkkad special court from Attapadi as part of the trial proceedings.

“Currently, we don’t face any direct threats. However, we are often isolated in our area. There were possibilities of provocation even on the court premises the previous days. The situation worsened in the backdrop of the verdict,” Sarasu said.

The family has submitted their request to DySP at the SP office. Earlier, the police had offered protection for Lily and Sarasu amid the case trial in 2022.

Madhu, a tribal from Attappady, was killed after he was caught, tied and thrashed by a group of local people alleging theft on February 22, 2018.
