Kochi: The lawyer representing the accused in the murder of Madhu, a tribal youth in Attapadi, refuted claims that he threatened the judge after the court cancelled the bail. Advocate Anil K Muhammed said that he only reminded the trial court they do not hold the power to cancel the bail granted by the High Court.
"The bail order was issued by Kerala High Court after dismissing the verdict of the trial court. Therefore, the Mannarkkad court does not hold power to cancel the bail," he said. He also denied saying that the lower court would face severe repercussions for their action or that a photo of the judge will be circulated. He added that they would file a petition in the high court against cancelling the bail.
Meanwhile, the special prosecutor Rajesh K Menon, who represented Madhu's family, said he witnessed the defence lawyer's unusual remark in court. However, he shared his surprise over the court mentioning this in the final verdict.
The verdict issued by the Mannarkkad court cancelling the bail of 12 accused also included a remark made by the defence lawyer in court. Meanwhile, nine of the 12 accused in the case absconded soon after the verdict came out.
