Beypore: The ferry service between the coasts of Beypore and Chaliyam is set to resume, after being shut down for ten days, owing to the Nipah induced restrictions. The entire region had come under containment zone.
The disaster management authority convened by the district collector issued an order lifting the ban imposed on the ferry service.
It should be noted that the service has been inconsistent over the last few months due to various reasons. In the backdrop of the Tanur boat tragedy, officials had earlier conducted an inspection identifying a few shortcomings in the facilities. Hence the services were put on hold for almost three months.
Scores of people including patients, students, and other employees from the either shores were troubled by the closure of the service. As an alternative, they had to take up the tedious journey of 11 kilometres by road.
Meanwhile, Kochi ferry service partner Noushad assured of steady services going ahead.
