Kozhikode: During the Onam season, the special squads of the legal metrology department conducted inspections in 3,337 shops across the districts of Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod. Cases were registered against 777 shops for violating rules. Northern Region Joint Controller Rajesh Sam informed that a total fine of Rs 30,34,500 was collected from the defaulters.
A total of 626 cases were registered against business establishments for using faulty/unauthorized weights and balances. Around 142 cases were registered for lack of packaging details and discrepancies in the MRP. Nine other cases were registered for over pricing and for selling underweight products as well.
