Kannur: An official investigation into the death of ADM Naveen Babu has revealed statements suggesting that CPM leader PP Divya deliberately orchestrated his public humiliation during a farewell event. The findings, submitted by Land Revenue Joint Commissioner A. Geetha, contradict Divya’s claim that her presence at the event was coincidental.

Representatives of the local channel Kannur Vision testified before the Joint Commissioner that Divya had instructed the recording of the farewell event and personally received the footage. The report further states that there is no evidence to support allegations that Naveen Babu accepted a bribe for granting permission to a petrol pump. It also highlights that Divya’s aide contacted the collector’s staff four times before the event.

The farewell was initially scheduled for 11 October but was postponed due to a public holiday. The collector testified that Divya made multiple calls regarding the event. However, the investigation found no evidence proving that she was officially invited to the send-off ceremony.

Timeline of events leading to Naveen Babu’s death
The report clarifies that Naveen Babu did not delay issuing a no-objection certificate for the petrol pump, as he had already been transferred to Pathanamthitta. During the farewell event, Divya unexpectedly arrived and made serious corruption allegations against him. A local news channel later shared a video of the incident on social media. The following day, Naveen Babu was found dead at his residence in Kannur.
